L'album a fait ses débuts à la cinquième place du Billboard 200 américain, avec 138 000 exemplaires vendus. Il a débuté à la dixième place au Royaume-Uni et, la semaine du 22 juillet, il est passé à la cinquième place. L'album a ensuite atteint la deuxième place au Royaume-Uni et la treizième en France.
L'album a été certifié Platine au Canada (100 000 unités) par la CRIA en août 2007. Dans le classement des albums de l'ARIA en Australie, Shock Value a été certifié 3x Platine avec des ventes de plus de 210 000 exemplaires.
